AAOPAC

Jennifer Butler, DMD - SAO AAOPAC Chair

Greetings. My name is Jen Butler and I am the AAO Political Action Committee Board Member for the SAO.  As you already know, this is a historic election year and it’s more important than ever that we keep Senators and Representatives in DC who are friendly to orthodontists and small business. So, how exactly can us orthodontists help with this task? The answer is simple, by contributing to the AAO’s Political Action Committee (“AAOPAC”).

Here is how the AAOPAC works:

  1. AAO members contribute to the AAOPAC
  2. The AAOPAC pools members’ money and donates to federal candidates that support orthodontic issues
  3. Federal candidates use our contributions to get re-elected
  4. We form relationships with the politicians we donate to and they continue to support issues important to orthodontists

And trust me, the AAOPAC is having an impact.  For example, the AAO was successful this past year in helping delay the medical device tax for two years.  In addition, during the past year, the AAO has helped lead efforts to pass the “Responsible Additions and Increases to Sustain Employee (RAISE) Health Benefits Act of 2015” (H.R. 1185), which just this month got introduced in the Senate. The bill would significantly improve the Flexible Spending Account (FSA) benefits offered by many U.S. employers. FSA accounts allow consumers to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for medical and healthcare expenses not covered by insurance, including orthodontic treatment.  We are also supporting legislation to help with student debt and further support small businesses.

Now, the impact the AAOPAC has in DC is entirely dependent on members’ contributions to AAOPAC.  And every contribution counts, no matter the size.  As it stands now, the SAO is ranked #1 among all AAO Constituencies for AAOPAC donations!! Yes, we are tops in the nation! This is a reflection of wonderful men and women that believe in giving back, believe that we are privileged to practice orthodontics and touch immeasurable lives, and believe that we are obligated to protect the best profession in the world! So I encourage all SAO members to join us in this historic year. To quote Usain Bolt, “Anything is possible; (We) Don’t Have Limits.”

The SAO is on track for a record breaking year. So please keep our momentum going strong, you can contribute to the AAOPAC today by clicking  here.
