SAO HISTORY Founded in 1921, the SAO has approximately 2,300 members in all categories and is the second largest of the regional (constituent) associations of the American Association of Orthodontists. It is the only AAO regional association with its own office building and full-time staff. Originally incorporated as the Southern Society of Orthodontists in Tennessee in 1950, the association was incorporated as the Southern Association of Orthodontists in Georgia on September 12, 1990. Included in its geographic area are the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana (east of the Mississippi), Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. Association Headquarters The association's 2,000 square feet fee simple condominium office building is at the corner of Lenox Road and Sidney Marcus Blvd. in northeast Atlanta with excellent access to I-85 and GA 400. It is five minutes from the popular Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza shopping malls. Nearby hotels include the Ritz Carlton Buckhead, J.W. Marriott, Westin Buckhead, Grand Hyatt, and Marriott Buckhead. THE SAO WORKS FOR YOU Your Executive Committee meets twice a year to oversee operations, invest the association's reserve fund, and review the issues that are of concern to SAO members. The Board of Directors, composed of a representative from each state and the Executive Committee, hear the recommendations of the Executive Committee and look at the big picture of orthodontics. The Delegates/Alternates work arduously at the AAO Annual Meeting to review resolutions to make the national organization responsive to your practice needs and the integrity of the specialty. The SAO office can be reached at (800) 261-5528 or emailed at: info@saortho.org, or saortho@bellsouth.net. The Executive Director is Sharon Hunt. BENEFITS
