Invitation to the 2022 Leadership Development Program
It's the last week to apply to join us for our 2022 Leadership Program.
This class is right for you if:
- You have a desire to grow in your leadership abilities
- Want to know more about organized orthodontics
- Have considered serving in your state component, SAO or AAO

The SAO Board of Directors invites you to join us in 2022 for our Leadership Program!
This program is a great way to develop your leadership skills. Since its inception in 2007, the SAO Leadership Program has helped more than 100 SAO members gain confidence in their leadership skills. Many program graduates have gone onto leadership positions within their state component organizations, the SAO, and the AAO.
PURPOSE: To provide a learning experience for individuals interested in developing leadership skills. These skills will be valuable and useful for various leadership situations including; within your work environment, church groups, civic organizations, study clubs and dental societies.
PROGRAM OUTLINE: Participants will receive selected reading materials (e.g. short book and articles from Harvard Business Review) prior to Session One. The curriculum includes the following topics among others:
- Leadership Basics
- Parliamentary Procedure
- Organizational Basics
- Legal Issues
- Organizational Structures
In Session Two, the class will divide into project groups to select a challenge facing the specialty for team development of a project to present to the SAO Board of Directors in November.
PARTICIPANT SELECTION: Interested candidates should click on the link below and complete the application form. The SAO Executive Committee will select approximately 18 individuals based on the application information and/or recommendations of component organizations. We ask that Residents complete their program and graduate prior to applying.
EXPENSES: The SAO will cover basic expenses to travel to Austin and Atlanta, hotel, food, and program materials. Participants are expected to pay expenses to attend the third session prior to the annual meeting.
MEETING DATES: The meeting dates are held in conjunction with Executive Board Meetings on January 15, March 12, and November 2, 2022. The Annual Meeting will be November 3-5 at the Hilton Downtown Austin.
The application deadline is November 1, 2021 and is limited to 18 participants. Applicants will be notified by November 19 of the committee's decision.
